Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is characterized by impaired social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication and restricted and repetitive behavior. The disorder is usually discovered in childhood, but currently many adults are diagnosed late. For these individuals there is usually a pattern: they are people who present the symptoms in a milder way, simply considered shy or with typical social difficulties, which delays the diagnosis.
According to data from the World Health Organization - WHO, there are around 70 million people in the world with autism, with around 2 million in Brazil alone.
