Alzheimer's disease was first described at the beginning of the 20th century by the German neurologist Alois Alzheimer and is characterized by the deterioration of brain functions, mainly by memory loss, communication difficulties and lack of ability to take care of oneself. More than a hundred years later, the disease is one of the most common dementias in the world and affects about 2 million elderly people in Brazil alone. Although its causes are not yet fully known, treatment can mitigate the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease and provide the patient with more dignity. On today's show, we're going to address the topic "Alzheimer: what's new about the disease?".
