April 2 is marked as the world autism awareness day. Autism spectrum disorder, also known as ASD, is a set of neurodevelopmental disorders. The main deficits presented are in social communication - socialization and verbal and non-verbal communication - and behavior - restricted interest and repetitive movements.
The clinical diagnosis is made in the first years of life, even before school age. Delayed treatment has serious consequences for the development of personal, social, academic and/or professional functioning.
What are the recommendations for a family that has just found out that one of its members is autistic? How to reduce prejudice against people with these disorders? Is autism curable? These and other questions will be answered on ABP TV by Doctors Francisco Assumpção, Kleber Oliveira and Lilian Lucas.
