Difficult-to-treat depression, also known as refractory or resistant depression, is characterized by the resistance it has to the treatments indicated by the psychiatrist. This lack of response causes many patients to abandon treatment . Bipolar disorder, on the other hand, is a complex mood disorder that causes fluctuations, taking the person from euphoria to depression in a short period of time. Attacks can vary in intensity, frequency and duration. Can the same person suffer from these two mental disorders? What is the differential diagnosis of these disorders? Are these disorders more common in men or women?
