Crack is a highly addictive drug, which brings countless harm to users, such as the development of lung and heart pathologies, malnutrition, psychiatric illnesses, in addition to greater exposure to risky situations. The III Survey on Drug Use by the Brazilian Population - LNUD III shows that at least 1.39 million citizens used the drug - a number that is probably underreported, as the homeless population was not considered in the study. The article "Gender differences in the progression to crack use and the role of sexual and physical violence", published in the Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry, points out that, as it is a drug with greater addiction potential, crack is generally not a substance of primary use, with its consumption preceded by other drugs, such as alcohol, marijuana and cocaine, for example. In this way, the study investigates the progression of drug use in crack users, mainly considering the difference between genders.
