A disease with biological, neurochemical and psychosocial causes, bipolar disorder affects about 140 million people worldwide. On average, the patient takes 10 years to be diagnosed, with their first symptoms appearing between the ages of 18 and 25. Due to the stigma and also the lack of correct treatment, approximately 50% of patients with bipolar disorder take their own lives, as a result of self-stigma, prejudice and lack of knowledge about the disease.
