Among the most incapacitating illnesses for work are depression, schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, alcoholism and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). In cases of incapacity for work, the worker must seek Social Security to apply for sickness benefit, a benefit granted to INSS insured persons affected by an illness or accident that makes them temporarily unable to work.
