Resumen

Introdución: Los estudios muestran una alta incidencia de síntomas psiquiátricos agudos en pacientes post-infección por COVID-19. Debido a la persistencia de síntomas o disfunciones orgánicas prolongadas, o al posible desarrollo de nuevos síndromes, se temen secuelas a largo plazo de la enfermedad, una condición que involucra déficit de memoria a corto plazo, dificultades para concentrarse y ejecutar lo habitual en las personas y razonamiento lento. Objetivo: El objetivo es brindar una visión general del tema de “Brain Fog” y, de esta manera, contribuir al conocimiento de los profesionales de la salud y al desarrollo de estrategias de manejo de la salud mental. Método: Se trata de una revisión de la literatura, con recolección de datos realizada en las bases de datos PubMed, LILACS y Scielo. Al tratarse de una revisión narrativa de la literatura, no se estableció una estructura específica y predeterminada para la selección de referencias bibliográficas, por lo que se debe considerar la posibilidad de sesgo de selección. Resultado: Se seleccionaron 14 trabajos que incluían los siguientes ítems sobre Cerebro Niebla: epidemiología, clínica, pronóstico y tratamiento. Conclusión: Se observó una alta prevalencia de disfunción cognitiva en el período posagudo de la infección por COVID-19. También hubo gran heterogeneidad en la caracterización de los síntomas, lo que hace necesario establecer definiciones consensuadas sobre la condición estudiada, para una mejor investigación de las estrategias de prevención y tratamiento.
