Domestic violence in times of Covid-19

Abstract

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the main orientation of health authorities in Brazil and the world is the same: everyone must stay at home and socially distance from each other. However, for a significant portion of the population, staying at home is a risk factor for the increase in domestic violence, as the United Nations - UN warns. According to the Organization, a third of women worldwide have experienced some form of violence in their lives, even outside the pandemic period. Currently, in countries like Italy and China, domestic violence case numbers have tripled, as women are forced to live with aggressors indoors during social distancing. According to a study by the Brazilian Public Security Forum, in the city of São Paulo alone, compared to March 2019, the increase was 46%. Today's program discusses the theme "Domestic Violence in times of Covid-19".
