Body dysmorphic disorder is characterized by extreme concern or dissatisfaction with one or more subtle or even non-existent defects in the individual's appearance. Causing strong anguish, the disorder can lead the patient to examine his own body in the mirror frequently or even compare it with that of other people. This disease can cause, in addition to anguish, serious damage to the individual's functional capacity, requiring follow-up with a psychiatrist and other health professionals to restore quality of life.
