Throughout the month of September, the ABP TV program discusses the theme “suicide” and its relationship with mental illness, as part of the actions of the Associação Brasileira de Psiquiatria – ABP in favor of the yellow September campaign. Until September 26, specialist psychiatrists from the ABP will debate issues related to the second leading cause of death among young people aged 15 to 29, answering questions from Internet users. This week, ABP TV brings the theme “suicide and schizophrenia”. Among cases of death by suicide, almost all are associated with mental disorders, with schizophrenia found in 10.6% of episodes. Worldwide, more than 800 million people die by suicide every year. Of these, 80 million suffer from diagnosed or undiagnosed schizophrenia, often treated inappropriately or untreated.
