Resumo

Introdução: Alterações no funcionamento cognitivo e problemas de comportamento são mais comuns em pessoas com transtornos psiquiátricos. Assim, o agrupamento clínico por distúrbios emocionais sem levar em consideração problemas cognitivos ou comportamentais pode confundir pacientes e ocasionar dificuldades para a efetividade do tratamento. Objetivos: Este estudo buscou investigar a presença de queixas comportamentais e disfunções cognitivas vivenciadas por crianças e adolescentes com transtornos psiquiátricos. Métodos: Um total de 97 participantes (63 do sexo masculino e 34 do sexo feminino) com idades entre 6 e 15 anos e diagnosticados com transtornos psiquiátricos foram submetidos à Escala Wechsler Abreviada de Inteligência (WASI) e a um questionário sociodemográfico e clínico. Resultados: Foram verificados fatores partilhados por diferentes transtornos psiquiátricos, como desempenho intelectual abaixo do esperado para a faixa etária (QI < 90) com diferenças entre os grupos diagnósticos no que se refere ao QI global [X² (3) = 13.715; P < 0.05] e distúrbios comportamentais (cerca de 46,4% dos casos), em particular no que se refere à agressividade (N = 32). Discussão/Conclusão: Para além dos diagnósticos em saúde mental, fatores cognitivos e comportamentais devem ser observados com atenção na clínica médica e psicológica com o intuito de intervenções terapêuticas mais eficazes, além de se determinar a progressão em relação ao tratamento.
