The implications of marijuana decriminalization in the brazilian psychiatry context

Marijuana is one of the most used psychoactive substances in the world and its decriminalization has been the subsject of debate in Brazil, through the resumption of the process that judges this issue on March 6, 2024. Understanding the relevance of this topic and its possible consequences in thje brazilian pisychiatric context, through this brief overview of the literature, we seek to elucidate possible losses from this decision in the mental health aspect, analyzing studies that evaluated the impact of decriminalization in other countries. Based on data presented, we reiterate the importance of public awareness-raising policies and reinforce the need for participation of entities and authorities in psychiatry in this decision.
