Artificial intelligence (AI) has been representing a revolution in healthcare, specifically in mental health, whose potential includes diagnostic algorithms, data analysis from various sources and real-time patient monitoring. However, issues associated with privacy, prejudice and the risk of this tool replacing human care are also evident; therefore, regulation and physician involvement are essential for its equitable implementation. Although it enhances clinical decision-making and efficiency, on the other hand, it can support moral dilemmas, loss of autonomy and issues related to the scope of practice. Achieving a balance between strengths and limitations implies using it as a validated clinical supplement under medical supervision. Its trajectory must be aligned with optimizing mental health treatment and maintaining compassionate care. However, it cannot be denied that its integration into psychiatry and psychotherapy is a reality.
