Abstract

Introduction: This study aims to collect data on the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of Brazilian adolescents who are victims of self-inflicted violence. Objective: To analyze the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of Brazilian adolescents who are involved in this type of self-inflicted violence, generating scientific information that supports public care policies for this population. Methodology: A scoping review was conducted across eight research sources. A total of 681 articles were identified, of which 21 met the eligibility criteria. The selection was carried out independently by three researchers, and conflicts were resolved through discussions to reach a consensus. The study prioritized sources with high-quality scientific evidence and sought to include data specific to the Brazilian population. Six articles were selected for analysis. Results: This behavior was predominant in females, aged 10 to 14 years, and was associated with alcohol and drug use, high impulsivity, bullying, and frequent recurrence of the acts. Discussion: Scientific literature highlights concern over self-inflicted injuries due to their strong association with suicide, correlation with substance use, depression, and borderline personality traits. Conclusion: There is a clear need for more robust studies and a noticeable lack of research on non-suicidal self-injuries among Brazilian adolescents during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
