Resumen

Indivíduos com transtorno bipolar apresentam risco significativo para altas taxas de comorbidade médica com fatores de risco cardiovascular. Doenças cardiovasculares têm sido reconhecidas como a principal causa de morte nessa população. Este artigo sumariza as evidências de associação entre mortalidade cardiovascular e transtorno bipolar, assim como as recomendações para a prevenção e o manejo de hipertensão, dislipidemia, diabetes, obesidade, síndrome metabólica e tabagismo em vigência do tratamento do transtorno bipolar.
