Resumen

En los últimos años, especialmente en la última década, la evaluación de diversos enfoques psicoterapéuticos se ha incluido en la agenda de investigación del trastorno bipolar del estado de ánimo (TB). Si hasta finales de los años 90 se publicaron en la literatura poco más de dos estudios controlados, sólo en los últimos dos años se han publicado al menos 12 ensayos clínicos con un grupo de control. Este gran crecimiento puede explicarse por el cambio de visión respecto al TB, que pasó a considerar la presencia de síntomas residuales fuera de los episodios anímicos (Judd et al., 2002), el enorme impacto en la vida funcional de los individuos (Magliano et al. , 2009) y el coste social atribuible a la propia enfermedad (Fajutrao et al., 2009). Además, estudios recientes han demostrado que cuanto mayor es el número de episodios anímicos, peor es la respuesta de estos pacientes (Pacchiarotti et al., 2011) al tratamiento farmacológico. De esta forma, se realizaron nuevos esfuerzos para aumentar el período de remisión de la enfermedad y mejorar el manejo de los síntomas y problemas relacionados con la misma. En este contexto, se ha comenzado a desarrollar el uso de enfoques estructurados que están específicamente dirigidos al tratamiento de trastorno bipolar del estado de ánimo (TB).
