Resumen

Durante las últimas dos décadas, hemos observado importantes avances científicos en el campo de la psiquiatría infantil. Gracias a estos avances, fue posible la identificación temprana de algunos trastornos psiquiátricos. La evidencia actual nos muestra que los niños en edad preescolar (entre 3 y 6 años) pueden tener graves problemas de salud mental, interfiriendo en su desarrollo emocional. Los estudios sugieren que entre el 10 y el 15% de los niños menores de 6 años sufren algún problema emocional o de conducta. Sin embargo, el diagnóstico durante este período de la vida sigue siendo bastante controvertido y es motivo de muchas discusiones entre investigadores y médicos que se preguntan si es posible, e incluso deseable, diagnosticar trastornos psiquiátricos en niños tan pequeños.
