Tratamento da dependência de álcool: diretrizes

Os problemas relacionados ao consumo do álcool só podem ser comparável ao daqueles causados pelo consumo do tabaco e pela prática de sexo sem proteção. As complicações relacionadas ao consumo de álcool não estão necessariamente relacionadas ao uso crônico. Intoxicações agudas, além de trazerem riscos diretos à saúde, deixam os indivíduos mais propensos a violência e acidentes. Desse modo, os problemas relacionados ao consumo de álcool podem acometer indivíduos de todas as idades. Eles devem ser investigados por todos os profissionais de saúde, em todos os pacientes. O diagnóstico precoce melhora o prognóstico desses indivíduos. Aqueles que possuem um padrão nocivo de consumo devem ser motivados para a abstinência ou a adoção de padrões mais razoáveis de consumo. Para aqueles que possuem diagnóstico de dependência de álcool, o encaminhamento para um serviço de tratamento especializado deve ser recomendado.
