In 2019, the World Health Organization published the most recent data on suicide worldwide, revealing that more than 1 million people died by suicide, which represents one in every 100 deaths. In Brazil, the scenario is also worrying: there are more than 14 thousand cases per year, according to the Ministry of Health. However, virtually all people who died by suicide were suffering from some mental disorder, so most cases could have been avoided if they received psychiatric care. In addition, research indicates that people with suicidal ideation show signs and, therefore, it is essential that everyone is able to identify them and help, if necessary. Today we are going to promote the special program "Yellow September®: how can people help?".
