Psychophobia, understood as prejudice directed at people with mental disorders, has been addressed by awareness campaigns in different ways, however, it is still part of the reality of many patients. Through this brief overview of the literature, I seek to elucidate possible harm caused by psychophobia. Based on the data presented, I reiterate the importance of public policies to raise awareness on this topic to demystify an issue that, despite being under increasing discussion, still causes great psychosocial harm.
