Electronic cigarettes: the novelty that became a Danger

Electronic smoking devices (ESDs), such as e-cigarettes, vapes, and pods, have become popular, especially among teenagers, due to their compact design, variety of flavors, and lack of unpleasant odor. Although they are prohibited in Brazil, their use has increased due to the ease of purchase and the perception of lower health risks. However, research shows that these devices cause serious health problems and psychiatric disorders, such as anxiety and depression. The nicotine found in ESDs is a psychoactive substance that generates feelings of pleasure and control, increasing the risk of addiction. Teenagers and young adults have the highest rates of experimentation. E-cigarette addiction is a public health issue that is often undiagnosed. It is important to be alert to signs such as excessive consumption or withdrawal symptoms and seek medical help to treat the disorder.
