Prevalência e correlatos do transtorno depressivo maior: uma revisão sistemática

Resumo

Objetivos: O transtorno depressivo maior (TDM) é uma das doenças mentais mais incapacitantes, com um impacto significativo na sociedade. Esta revisão tem o objetivo de apresentar evidências científicas atualizadas sobre a epidemiologia do TDM. Métodos: Uma revisão sistemática da literatura dos bancos de dados PubMed e MEDLINE foi realizada para identificar artigos sobre a prevalência de TDM e seus correlatos. A busca foi restrita a manuscritos publicados entre janeiro de 2001 e dezembro de 2018. Resultados: Sessenta e três artigos foram incluídos na revisão. A prevalência de TDM ao longo da vida variou de 2 a 21%, com as taxas mais altas sendo encontradas em alguns países europeus e as mais baixas em alguns países asiáticos. Os principais correlatos sociodemográficos foram o estado civil separado/divorciado e o sexo feminino. Abuso infantil, violência praticada por parceiro íntimo e comorbidade com outros transtornos físicos e mentais também estiveram consistentemente associados ao TDM nos estudos revisados. Conclusões: TDM é uma doença altamente prevalente em todo o mundo. Existem diferenças inter-regionais notáveis na prevalência do transtorno, bem como em certos correlatos sociodemográficos. TDM também é altamente comórbido com problemas de saúde física e mental.
