Introduction: In the International Classification of Diseases, 11th edition (ICD-11), Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD) is classified among mental disorders, in the Impulsive Disorders chapter. The individual presents a persistent pattern of failure to control impulses or intense and repetitive sexual urges as a diagnostic criterion. The condition must persist for at least six months and lead to severe suffering or harm to personal life. Objectives: Conduct a narrative literature review with the aim of presenting updated information on diagnosis and treatment. Methods: Narrative review of the literature on symptoms, causes and treatment of CSBD. Results and discussion: Diagnoses of other sexual disorders, psychiatric and somatic conditions are essential. Medications, psychotherapy and pelvic phisiotherapy can be of great value. The treatment of the sexual compulsion aims to inhibit such behavior and, at the same time, encourage health sexual activity, whitout suffering. Antidepressants, Antipsychotics, Antipsychotics, Mood Stabilizers and Naltrexone can be used, depending on diagnosis and comorbidities. Treating possible clinical diseases such as hyperandrogenism is essential. In serious cases that pose a risk to other people and the patient himself, antiandrogens such Cyproterone can be used. Medications that lead to chemical castration levels, such as luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) partial agonists, are not authorized for such use in Brazil. Conclusions: Treating sexual, psychiatric and clinical disorders appropriately is essential. However, more research is needed to elucidate the causes of CSBD and possible treatment alternatives.
