This article starts by reviewing cognitive models and the general principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in social anxiety disorder. Subsequently, the authors propose a systematic exercise to be used especially during psychoeducation and cognitive restructuring CBT sessions. Based on the dysfunctional social anxiety cycle, which contributes to maintain social anxiety symptoms, both patient and therapist activelywork in the search for a more functional cycle, namely, the alternative social anxiety cycle.
