Ethical boundaries of new neuromodulation techniques in research, clinical practice, and advertising

This article discusses the ethical aspects involved in the research, clinical practice, and advertising of neuromodulation techniques, with a focus on transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). Guidelines established by different regulatory agencies for both brain stimulation techniques and equipment are presented.
