Abstract

There has been a growing interest in the study of the relationships between spirituality and health. Empirical studies have highlighted the protective role of spirituality in preventing depression, anxiety disorders, substance use, decreasing suicide risk, promoting well-being and quality of life, in addition to resilience in cases of adverse events, trauma, and acute or chronic stress. However, more studies are needed to better understand the relationship between spirituality and health in different clinical settings, and thus contribute to advance the understanding of this complex topic.
