The World Health Organization (WHO) is in the process of revising the International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, currently in its 10th version (ICD-10). Several changes have been proposed in the conditions related to sexuality and sexual health, including the elimination of all categories of the F66 code (psychological and behavioral disorders associated with sexual development and orientation) present in ICD-10. It is believed that thecurrent version tends to pathologize a normal developmental response and generate more stigma, social discrimination, and possible therapeutic idiosyncrasies. In addition, none of these categories has shown clinical relevance or usefulness. The purpose of this article is to present an update on the proposed revisions to ICD-11 within the context of current scientific understanding of human sexual orientation.
