Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is highly prevalent and presents high rates of comorbidities and great impact on patients` lives. ADHD has been extensively studied in Psychiatry and subjected to significant changes in its diagnostic criteria. ADHD in adults is gaining emphasis in recent editions of the classification systems. The diagnosis remains clinical and the treatment is based on psychosocial and psychopharmacological interventions. Psychostimulants are the first choice for the treatment of ADHD.
