Growing evidence suggests that pharmacotherapy may be beneficial for some patients with binge eating disorder, an eating disorder characterized by repetitive episodes of uncontrollably consuming abnormally large amounts of food without inappropriate weight loss behaviors. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of pharmacological therapeutic alternatives in the treatment of binge eating disorder. Thus, a systematic review was carried out from the selection of scientific studies published in the years 2017 to 2022. Based on the analysis and interpretation of the data, it was concluded that pharmacological therapeutic alternatives are complementary resources both in the treatment of binge eating disorder as symptoms of an eating disorder and not surrogates. In this sense, the use of drugs such as fluoxetine, lisdexamfetamine and simplicifolia, combined with other treatments, such as psychotherapy, can be effective for patients and their specific needs.
