The subject of this edition of the ABPTV program is Mitominia, addiction to lying. Mythomania is a personality disorder in which the person has an addiction to lying. Mythomania is also known as obsessive-compulsive lying. The mythomaniac can tell lies that are considered silly and others that may gain large proportions and uses the lie for his own benefit or the harm of another in an immoral and insensitive way without feeling the need to undo the deceit. It is believed that the disease develops due to the patient's low self-esteem, an attempt to protect himself from embarrassing situations that mark the onset of mythomania, or due to psychosocial factors.
