Introduction: Depression has been considered, in recent decades, as a serious public health problem, imposing heavy burdens on society, being the fourth cause of social burden and leading to a 44% reduction in life expectancy. WHO projects for 2020 a worsening of this situation. Working conditions are closely associated with triggering and aggravating depressive conditions. Work in the banking sector was one of those that suffered the most from reformulations in its administrative organization from the 90s of the last century, mainly with automation, causing situations of aggravation to the worker's mental health to arise. Objectives: Carry out a speech analysis of bank employees, seeking to deepen the causes of their psychic illness. Methods: A case study of six bank employees with depression was carried out, analyzing their speech about illness and relationships at work. Results: All respondents reported the onset of depressive symptoms resulting from situations involved at work and described feelings of the negative pole of humor. Several situations were also reported that included moral harassment and humiliation in the work environment with progressive deterioration in the quality of life. Conclusions: Changes are needed in working relationships within banking organizations, with greater awareness of the impacts of organizational attitudes on the health of subordinate workers. More long-term studies are also needed to reinforce this causal link and support proposals for changes in relationships.
