Abstract

The idea that mental processes are computational and therefore reproducible artificially brought a major boost to the creation of Artificial Intelligence and became a theoretical framework that has revitalized cognitive psychology, connectionism, linguistics, biomedical engineering and other fields. Psychiatry is a discipline that resembles very closely the computational science and its interaction with this science is a factor of development and evolution for that medical specialty. In this article we discuss some theoretical and some proposed models for what we call computational psychiatry.
