The text seeks to bring a comparison between Melanie Klein's theory about the relevance of unconscious fantasies, such as the mental representation of the infant's drives, for the mother-baby bond and a current theme. Thus, at first, it presents an expanded summary of Klein's work, from Freudian contributions to the emergence of the term “unconscious fantasies”. In a second moment, in turn, it explores texts from the last 15 years, which address the anxieties of mothers, expectations regarding the pregnancy of their baby and the bond with him. It is concluded that the focus has expanded to delicate contexts (such as prematurity, illness, social vulnerability, etc.) and it has been pointed out that the relationship requires the existence of the child in the maternal imaginary universe, and it is essential that a multidisciplinary team assist the mother in raising a bond with your child. Finally, we add the notion that the baby's anxieties do not derive exclusively from his experience, but can also be inherited, according to Brazilian author Trachtenberg, with a greater focus on unconscious fantasies generated by the maternal psyche and how they affect the bond mother-baby.
