From a position of conflict to a position of greater integration, psychotherapy combined with medication is attracting more psychiatric practitioners. Their clinical practice has been characterized by a non- dichotomous approach using both psychodynamic and biological psychiatry. The objective of this paper is to review psychodynamic and psychopharmalogical evolution when involved in a combined treatment programme. The second part of this paper presents an integrated therapeutic psychiatric model. The history of both these two approaches goes back to their origins with subsequent consequences in psychiatric capacity and skills. The psychiatric practitioner should integrate a clinical diagnosis with a structural diagnosis as well as using distinct techniques. To better understand how this model functions the author has included two clinical illustrations.
