Abstract

On April 16th, in a vote in the Federal Senate, PEC No. 45/2023 was approved in the second instance by 52 votes to 9, which criminalizes the possession and possession of any quantity of illicit substances in the country. The Brazilian Psychiatric Association, through its representatives, was a major driver of this bill, presenting scientific data carried out by The Lancet magazine which indicates that countries that had this release saw the number of users increase exponentially. This release would be devastating and would bring irreversible damage to our country. To talk about this subject and how much it affects the mental health of the Brazilian population, ABP TV this Tuesday, April 23rd, welcomes some of the psychiatrists present in the sessions held in the Plenary of the Federal Senate that debated the subject.
