AME Psychiatry: one year of operation

Introduction: AME Psiquiatria Vila Maria and its contribution to mental health care: data from the first year of operation. Objective: To present the medical outpatient clinic of specialties (AME) Psiquiatria Vila Maria and report data for the first year of functioning and their contributions to health care mental for the North Zone of the city of São Paulo. Method: It was A review of the data regarding the number of consultations, reference units, coverage area, number of professionals, extension and research activities, and general acceptance of the unit by the users in the said operating period. RESULTS: The AME Psiquiatria Vila Maria, the first AME in São Paulo, is a reference for the entire North Zone of São Paulo, which covers an area of 295.3 km2 and a population of 2,214,654 inhabitants. In its first year of operation, it provided 26,352 services doctors and 21,385 non-doctors, currently has 127 professionals, carries out extension and research activities and has 97% overall user acceptance of the unit. Conclusion: The mental health model currently in force in Brazil presents a series of challenges to Brazilian society. The Brazilian Association of Psychiatry has participated in this discussion, proposing the creation services that can better meet the needs of the Brazilian population. In this context, AME Psiquiatria has contributed, in its first year of operation, to improving the quality of mental health care in its area of operation.
