Resumen

El TDAH (Trastorno por Déficit de Atención e Hiperactividad) es un trastorno extremadamente bien investigado con una validez superior la de la mayoría de los trastornos mentales y superior, incluida la de muchos condiciones médicas (AMA Council for Scientific Affairs, 1998). Según Thomas Insel, director del Instituto Nacional de Salud Mental (NIMH) Síntomas y trastornos psiquiátricos norteamericanos “comienzan temprano en la vida y son crónicos”. Creciente evidencia en muestran que los niños en edad preescolar (entre 3 y 6 años) edad) pueden tener serios problemas de salud mental, lo que interfiere con su desarrollo emocional. Entre los trastornos trastornos psiquiátricos identificados en preescolar, Trastorno Negativista Desafiante (ODD) y Trastorno por Déficit de Atención/Hiperactividad (TDAH) son los más estudiados. Los estudios sugieren que el diagnóstico psiquiátrico en preescolar persiste hasta la edad escolar y, por lo tanto, justifica la necesidad de una intervención temprana. La persistencia del diagnóstico se relacionó con una serie de factores, incluida la baja cohesión familiar, el nivel socioeconómico y los eventos vitales negativos.
