Violence is recognized worldwide as a public health problem. In 2002, the World Health Organization (WHO) highlighted abuse and neglect due to their chronic nature and the psychological and social harm that they cause, in addition to physical injury, often victimizing children. This article describes different types of child abuse, with a main focus on Munchausen syndrome by proxy, due to the peculiarity of involving three entities, even if inadvertently: the doctor, the caregiver/perpetrator, and the child/victim.
