The Global Commission on Drug Policies in 2011 announced that the “war on drugs has failed” and the legalization would be one of the answers to curb trafficking, violence, excessive incarceration and drug use among young people. However, it reinforces the strict necessity to consider the matter starting from a scientific perspective of what would be the hypothetical benefits that would result from drug´s legalization, primarily for public health. Thus, this article aims to briefly point out some of the key points based on evidence that reinforces that legalization in Brazil currently is an attitude at least hasty, careless and erroneous.
